Glass Organza Fabric Plain Dyeable | 44 Inch | 40 GSM | M'Foks
About This Fabric
M'Foks Glass Organza is a plain-weave polyester organza fabric with a crisp, paper-like hand and a transparent sheen. Unlike soft organzas, glass organza holds its structure with a light stiffness that creates volume, clean pleats, and defined silhouettes — which is why it is a go-to fabric for layered sarees, structured dupattas, and designer garments where the fabric is meant to stand and move with presence. Sold undyed, it accepts disperse dyes evenly across the full 44-inch width for uniform, vibrant colour results.
At approximately 40 grams per metre, this is one of the lightest woven fabrics available — sheer enough to use as a layering fabric over a base garment, yet structured enough to hold its own as the primary outer layer. The low weight makes it especially effective for bridal and festive overlays, ruffled sleeves, and flowy skirt panels. It is gender-neutral in application, working cleanly for both menswear (sherwani overlays, embellished kurta panels) and womenswear (saree, dupatta, anarkali, evening gown).
Allow for approximately 5% shrinkage after dyeing. Pre-wash gently in cool water before dyeing or cutting to remove factory sizing and let the fabric settle to its finished dimensions.

Common Questions
What is Glass Organza best used for?
Saree overlays, dupattas, lehenga net panels, sherwani outer layers, anarkali flare, ruffled kurta sleeves, and structured designer dresses. The crisp texture creates volume and defined pleats — ideal for festive and bridal garments that need presence and shape.
What is the difference between Glass Organza and regular organza?
Glass organza has a crisper, stiffer hand than soft organza. It catches light differently — the smooth polyester weave gives it a clean, glass-like transparency and a subtle sheen. Regular organza can feel softer and less structured. For garments where you want the fabric to hold its shape and stand away from the body, glass organza is the better choice.
Can men use this for sherwani or kurta?
Yes. Glass organza is a popular choice for sherwani outer overlays, embellished kurta panels, and Indo-western jackets. Dye it to your required colour, add embroidery or sequin work if desired, and use it as a structured outer layer over a base fabric.
How many metres do I need?
Saree overlay: 5.5–6 metres. Dupatta: 2.5 metres. Lehenga panel (outer layer): 3–4 metres. Anarkali flare: 2.5–3 metres. Sherwani outer layer: 3–3.5 metres. Add 5–10% extra for post-dyeing shrinkage and cutting allowance.
Can I embroider or add sequin work on this fabric?
Yes. The crisp, flat surface is ideal for hand embroidery, machine embroidery, sequin embellishment, and zari work. Embroider after dyeing for best results. The stiff weave holds needlework without puckering or distorting.
Is it comfortable to wear in Indian weather?
Glass organza is a sheer overlay fabric — it is not typically worn directly against skin. It is usually layered over a lining or inner garment. As an outer layer, the ultra-low 40 GSM weight keeps the garment airy and light even in warm weather.
Dyeing & Care
Dyeing Steps
-
1Pre-wash
Hand wash gently in cool water before dyeing. Dry flat. Removes factory sizing and ensures even dye penetration across the sheer weave.
-
2Use disperse dyes only
Polyester requires disperse dyes (e.g. Dylon Polyester, iDye Poly, Jacquard iDye Poly). Do not use direct, acid, or fiber reactive dyes — these are for natural or viscose fibres and will not bond with polyester. The fabric will remain undyed if the wrong dye type is used.
-
3Dye bath temperature
Disperse dyes require high heat (85–95°C) to bond with polyester fibres. Use a stainless steel pot, not aluminium. Submerge the fabric fully and stir gently and continuously for even colour. Maintain temperature throughout the dye process.
-
4Shrinkage allowance
Expect approximately 5% shrinkage. Cut all pieces slightly larger than your final measurements before dyeing.
-
5Rinse & dry
Rinse in cool water until clear. Do not wring or twist the fabric — organza creases easily when wet. Lay flat in shade to dry or hang carefully without clips on the weave.
Care After Dyeing
-
•Washing
Hand wash cold with very mild detergent. Do not machine wash — the delicate weave can snag or distort under machine agitation.
-
•Drying
Lay flat in shade or hang on a smooth hanger. Do not wring, twist, or tumble dry. Handle gently while wet to avoid permanent creasing.
-
•Ironing
Iron on the lowest synthetic setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric. Do not apply direct high heat — polyester organza can melt or permanently flatten under excessive heat.
-
•Storage
Fold loosely with tissue paper between layers to prevent permanent crease lines. Store away from direct sunlight and moisture.
⚠ Use disperse dyes only — direct, acid, and fiber reactive dyes will not bond with polyester. High heat (85–95°C) is required for proper dye absorption. Do not apply direct iron heat without a pressing cloth — the fabric can melt or lose its crisp texture permanently.
