Dola Silk Checked Jacquard Banarasi Fabric | 44 Inch | Maroon
About This Fabric
M'Foks Dola Silk Checked Jacquard Banarasi is a polyester-base Banarasi fabric woven with a traditional jacquard loom to produce an interlocking checked pattern across the surface. The jacquard weave creates a self-textured, dimensional check — meaning the design is woven directly into the fabric structure, not printed or embroidered on top. The result is a fabric with depth, subtle sheen, and a pattern that remains clear and crisp through repeated washing and wearing.
At approximately 90 grams per metre with a 44-inch width, this fabric sits in a mid-weight range — substantial enough to hold a structured kurta or sherwani silhouette, fluid enough for a draped saree or dupatta. The polyester base gives it excellent colour retention, low shrinkage, and durability that pure silk cannot match at this price point. It is a fabric that works for both menswear and womenswear without modification — the same piece of cloth cuts beautifully into a sherwani, a lehenga, a saree blouse, or a koti.
Available in multiple shades, each pre-dyed by the Banarasi mill to ensure the jacquard pattern and base colour are balanced and matched. Please select your shade from the colour options listed above and check the product images for accurate colour reference.

Common Questions
What garments is this fabric best suited for?
Menswear: kurta, sherwani, koti (Nehru jacket), indo-western coat. Womenswear: lehenga, saree, kurti, blouse, dupatta, anarkali. The checked jacquard pattern adds visual interest without embroidery — ideal for festive and semi-formal garments where texture does the work.
What is Dola Silk and how is it different from pure silk?
Dola Silk is a polyester-based fabric engineered to replicate the hand, sheen, and drape of pure silk. It is lighter in price, more durable, resists colour fading, and is easier to maintain than pure silk. The Banarasi jacquard weave technique is the same — only the base fibre differs. For buyers who want the Banarasi look and feel without the fragility or cost of pure silk, Dola Silk is the standard choice.
Is the checked pattern woven or printed?
Woven. The checked pattern is a jacquard weave — it is built into the fabric structure using the loom, not applied on top as a print. This means the pattern will not crack, peel, or fade the way printed patterns do. The check is visible on both the right and reverse sides of the fabric, with the right side showing a crisper, more defined finish.
How many metres do I need?
Saree: 5.5–6 metres. Dupatta: 2.5 metres. Lehenga (skirt only): 3–4 metres. Women's kurta/kurti: 2.5–3 metres. Blouse: 0.75–1 metre. Sherwani (men's, full): 3.5–4 metres. Kurta (men's, standard): 2.5–3 metres. Koti/Nehru jacket: 1.5–2 metres.
Can I match the dupatta and blouse to the lehenga or saree from the same fabric?
Yes, and this is one of the key advantages of buying by the metre. Order the same shade in sufficient yardage to cut your lehenga, blouse, and dupatta from one fabric — guaranteeing a perfect colour and pattern match. See the yardage guide above for individual piece requirements.
Is the colour accurate in the product images?
We photograph all fabric shades under neutral daylight to reflect accurate colour. Screen calibration varies between devices, so slight variation is possible. If you are colour-matching with an existing garment, we recommend ordering a small quantity first or contacting us to confirm the shade before placing a larger order.
Stitching Tips & Care
Stitching & Cutting Tips
-
1Pre-wash before cutting
Hand wash in cool water before cutting to remove any factory residue and allow minimal pre-shrinkage. Dry flat. The polyester base means shrinkage is very low, but pre-washing ensures a stable cut.
-
2Align the check pattern before cutting
For garments where the check pattern should align across seams — such as a sherwani front or lehenga panels — lay out all pieces before cutting and verify the check repeat matches at seam lines. Account for pattern matching in your fabric quantity.
-
3Use sharp scissors or a rotary cutter
Jacquard fabrics can shift during cutting. Use sharp fabric scissors or a rotary cutter with a cutting mat. Pin pieces firmly before cutting to prevent the layers from slipping.
-
4Needle and thread
Use a fine universal or ballpoint needle (size 70/10 or 80/12) with polyester thread in a matching colour. A fine needle prevents visible holes in the weave.
-
5Finish raw edges
Polyester jacquard can fray at cut edges. Finish all raw edges with a serger/overlocker or a tight zigzag stitch immediately after cutting.
Care Instructions
-
•Washing
Hand wash cold with mild detergent, or machine wash on a gentle/delicate cycle in a mesh laundry bag. Avoid hot water — it can cause the fabric to lose its sheen over time.
-
•Drying
Hang or lay flat in shade. Do not tumble dry. The jacquard texture can flatten slightly under high heat drying.
-
•Ironing
Iron on a low-to-medium synthetic setting on the reverse side of the fabric. Use a pressing cloth to protect the sheen and jacquard texture. Do not steam directly onto the fabric surface.
-
•Storage
Fold along the fabric grain to avoid permanent crease lines in the jacquard weave. Store away from direct sunlight to preserve colour vibrancy across all shades.
⚠ This is a pre-dyed fabric in multiple shades — it is NOT dyeable or overdyeable at home. The colour is set at the Banarasi mill. Do not attempt to dye or bleach this fabric. Iron only on reverse side with a pressing cloth to preserve the jacquard weave texture and surface sheen.
