What exactly is a "slub" fabric and why does it look like linen?
Slub refers to intentional thick-and-thin variations in the yarn. In natural linen, these irregularities occur because of how flax fibres are processed — and they give linen its distinctive textured look. In slub cotton or PC slub, the yarn is engineered to replicate this variation. The result is a fabric that closely mimics the visual depth and surface character of linen, while being softer, easier to wash, and far less prone to wrinkling.
Is digital printing on slub fabric different from regular digital printing?
Yes. The slub surface means the print sits on a slightly uneven texture, which gives the design a more organic, handcrafted appearance. Fine geometric prints, floral patterns, and abstract designs all gain character from the texture. Colours may appear slightly more muted than on a flat cotton surface — this is normal and contributes to the natural linen aesthetic.
Is this fabric good for Indian summer weather?
Yes. The cotton component in the PC blend ensures the fabric is breathable and absorbs some moisture. The open slub weave allows air circulation. At 120 GSM it is not too heavy. It performs well in moderate summer heat. For extreme heat, pure cotton or linen is lighter, but this fabric offers a practical balance between comfort and structure.
How many metres do I need?
Kurti (women's): 2–2.5 metres. Full kurta (knee length): 2.5–3 metres. Dress (midi): 2.5–3 metres. Co-ord set (top + pants): 3.5–4 metres. Men's shirt: 2–2.5 metres. Men's kurta: 2.5–3 metres. Saree: 5.5–6 metres. Palazzo pants: 2–2.5 metres. Add 10% for pattern matching with printed designs.
Will the print fade after washing?
Digital prints on PC fabric are reactive-fixed and have good wash fastness. Wash in cold or cool water, avoid harsh detergents, and do not tumble dry on high heat. First wash may release a small amount of surface dye — this is normal. From the second wash, colour stability is high with gentle care.

1Pre-wash before cutting
Hand or machine wash (gentle, cold) before cutting to allow any first-wash shrinkage to occur in the fabric, not in the finished garment. Dry flat or on a hanger. Iron lightly before marking and cutting.

2Account for print repeat in layout
Digital prints on this fabric may have a repeat pattern across the width. Before cutting multiple panels (e.g., saree blouse + kurti from the same cut), lay out all pieces and check that the print aligns or complements across seam lines. Add 10% extra yardage when pattern matching is required.

3Needle and thread
Use a universal needle (size 80/12 or 90/14) with polyester or poly-cotton thread. A slightly longer stitch length (2.5–3 mm) works well with the slub texture and prevents the seam from appearing tight against the irregular yarn.

4Finish raw edges
PC slub fabric frays at cut edges. Finish immediately with a serger/overlocker, a tight zigzag stitch, or fabric pinking shears. Do not leave raw edges unfinished.

Machine wash on gentle cycle in cool or cold water (30°C max). Use mild detergent. Can be hand washed. Wash dark prints inside-out to protect print vibrancy.

Hang to dry in shade. The PC blend dries quickly. Avoid high-heat tumble drying — it can flatten the slub texture and cause minor shrinkage over time.

Iron on medium heat (cotton/linen setting) while slightly damp. Iron on the reverse side to protect the print. The slub texture will flatten very slightly under the iron — this is normal and the texture recovers after a short while.

Fold along the fabric grain or roll loosely. Store away from direct sunlight to preserve the digital print colours across all designs.
⚠ Wash dark or heavily saturated digital print colours cold and inside-out for the first 2–3 washes to prevent colour transfer. Do not soak in hot water or use bleach. The slub texture is a natural feature of the yarn construction — slight variation in thread thickness is intentional and not a fabric defect.
